What is Calcineurin

Protein phosphatase 3 (formerly 2B), catalytic subunit, alpha isoform, also known as PPP3CA, is a human gene.[1] Calcineurin (CN) is a protein phosphatase also known as protein phosphatase 2B (PP2B). Calcineurin is responsible for activating the transcription of interleukin 2 (IL-2), that stimulates the growth and differentiation of T cell response. In immunosuppressive therapy it is inhibited by cyclosporin, pimecrolimus (Elidel) and tacrolimus (FK506) - these drugs are known as calcineurin inhibitors. Calcineurin dephosphorylates Nuclear factor of activated T cell, cytoplasmic component (NFATc), a transcription factor that can then go into the nucleus and turn on genes involved in IL-2 synthesis.

Calcineurin is linked to receptors for two brain chemicals, NMDA and dopamine. An experiment with genetically-altered mice that could not produce calcineurin showed similar symptoms as in humans with schizophrenia: impairment in working memory, attention deficits, aberrant social behavior and several other abnormalities characteristic of schizophrenia.[3]

The amount of IL-2 being produced by the T-helper cells is believed to influence the extent of the immune response significantly.

Recent research on luohan guo suggests that the mogroside works as an antioxidant[12] and that it helps to prevent cancer.[13][14] The use of luohan guo as a remedy for diabetes and overweight has been mentioned, as it can be used as a substitute for sugar.[15] Luohan guo has been shown to be useful against the Epstein-Barr virus. [16] The plant also contains a glycoprotein called momorgrosvin, which has been shown to inhibit ribosomal protein synthesis[17]

Diabetes of Pterostilbene

Similar to what has been discovered with the drug metformin, pterostilbene has been shown to lower blood glucose levels in rats by as much as 42 percent, although at this point very little research has been conducted to conclusively follow this out.

What is Linagliptin

Linagliptin (BI-1356, expected trade name Ondero) is a DPP-4 inhibitor developed by Boehringer Ingelheim undergoing research for type II diabetes. It is currently in a Phase III clinical trial.

Unintentional weight loss

Poor management of type 1 diabetes mellitus, also known as insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), leads to an excessive amount of glucose and an insufficient amount of insulin in the bloodstream. This triggers the release of triglycerides from adipose (fat) tissue and catabolism (breakdown) of amino acids in muscle tissue. This results in a loss of both fat and lean mass, leading to a significant reduction in total body weight. Note that untreated type 1 diabetes mellitus will usually not produce weight loss, as these patients get acutely ill before they would have had time to lose weight. Diabetes of HLA-DQB1

Several alleles of HLA-DQB1 are associated with an increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes.[3][4][5] The locus also has the genetic name IDDM1 as it is the highest genetic risk for type 1 diabetes. Again the DQB1*0201 and DQB1*0302 alleles, particularly the phenotype DQB1*0201/*0302 has a high risk of late onset type 1 diabetes. The risk is partially shared with the HLA-DR locus (DR3 and DR4 serotypes).

Type 2 diabetes of Glucomannan

Glucomannan may be useful as a therapeutic adjunct for type 2 diabetes. It has been shown to improve the lipid profile and alleviate the fasting blood glucose levels of type 2 diabetics.[9]
